As Principal, I consider it a genuine privilege to lead a school where learning is never treated as something that happens only to children. We think of ourselves as a community of learners: teachers, parents, staff and students alike. That shapes how we plan every lesson, every meeting, and every decision we make about the year ahead.

Academically, we hold ourselves to high standards, and we try to be honest with our students about what that actually requires: consistency, curiosity, and a willingness to be corrected. Following the National Curriculum for England from our Early Years Foundation Stage right through to Year 11, we aim to give every child a foundation strong enough to take them wherever they choose to go next, whether that’s a specific university course or a career path they’ve already set their sights on. For plenty of students at this stage, “next” is simply the confidence to keep asking good questions, and that’s a perfectly good place to be, too. Rigour matters to us, but so does making sure it never comes at the expense of a child’s sense that school is somewhere they belong.

That balance is really the heart of how we think about pastoral care. Every child who walks through our doors is known, not as a name on a register, but as a person with a story, and with things that worry them on a Monday morning. Our staff are trained to notice when something is off, and our systems are built so that no child slips through unnoticed. Wellbeing isn’t a separate initiative running alongside the academic programme here; it’s the condition that makes the academic programme possible in the first place. We also take seriously the fact that we are a school in Sharjah, shaped by the community around us. Our students grow up in a genuinely multicultural environment, and we see that as an asset rather than a complication, one that teaches empathy and adaptability in ways a textbook simply can’t. We work hard to keep parents as real partners in their children’s education, not just recipients of a termly report, because the students who do best are almost always the ones whose home and school are pulling in the same direction.
